Sashiko Inspred Brooch Guide

$10.00

A 27-page illustrated guide to making a hand-stitched brooch or pendant from old denim and textile scraps. Instant download.

Main description

These pieces started as a way to use what was left on my table. Old jeans give the structure, scraps give the color, and thread goes through every layer until the surface is covered.

This tutorial shows exactly how I make them. You'll cut a base from denim, build a composition from layered scraps, stitch it down so the raw edges hold, then wrap the edges in thread. From there you can finish it as a brooch with a pin back, or as a pendant on a cord made from a strip of textile. Every step is photographed.

You don't need to buy anything. I rarely use specialty thread. Crochet thread, weaving cotton or DMC all work. A pair of jeans you no longer wear and a handful of offcuts are enough to start.

What's inside

  • 27 landscape pages with step-by-step photos

  • Cutting and shaping the denim base

  • Choosing and layering scraps (and why three layers is the limit)

  • Stitching so the raw edges hold and don't fray

  • Attaching a brooch pin

  • Wrapping and finishing the edges

  • Adding beads and charms

  • Making a pendant loop and a textile cord, and joining it cleanly

You'll need
Denim and textile scraps, scissors, long needles (sashiko or darning), thread, an iron. Optional: brooch pins, tailor's chalk, a clothes pin, beads or charms.

Skill level
Beginner. If you can thread a needle and do a running stitch, you can make this.

Format
Digital PDF. Delivered by email after purchase. No physical item is shipped.

Please note
I'm a one-woman studio. This tutorial is for personal use only and may not be copied, shared or resold. Pieces you make from it are for your own use, not for sale.
